The Technology of Unmanned Aerial Photography.
At Image Above we use unmanned aerial vehicles to fill a unique void with traditional aerial photography. While our remotely piloted aircraft are limited to a maximum altitude of 400 feet, traditional aircraft are limited to a minimum altitude of 1000 feet. With manned aircrafts altitude limits, Very long telephoto lenses are required to capture the images. Photographing from this altitude results in images that are flat looking and focus on more of the roof and footprint rather than the details of the subject. This is why most people associate aerial photography with the images that you might see on Goggle Earth. At Image Above our approach is the exact opposite, we shoot as low to the ground as possible, and very close to the subject. This ideal perspective is an angle that is impossible to achieve with ground photography or conventional aerial photography. Some of our most amazing photos look like they were shot from the top of a building next door. (that doesn’t exist) This results in images that are captivating and conveys the beauty and details from a perspective just high enough to show the subject at its most appealing perspective.
Perspectives.
At ImageAbove, our specialty UAVs can safely operate from one- foot above ground level to 400-feet. With out minimum altitude restriction, we can use a wide lens to shoot as close to the subject as possible, maximizing clarity, detail and resolution. When we photograph a project we start shooting from just a few feet above the ground and continue shooting as we gain altitude, capturing shots at every imaginable interval in between. Often, the most spectacular images are from an altitude of only 50-100 feet.
high enough to see the subject from a unique perspective, but low enough to not feel like you're looking out the window of a passing airplane;
high enough to show the subject in relation to its surroundings, but low enough to show the property from its most flattering perspective (usually less than 100-feet).
This “neighborhood perspective” also conveys a large amount of information in an interesting, eye-catching and intuitive format. I like to say that I have developed a 400-foot tripod that is easy to deploy and able to operate anywhere.
Live Image Feed.
We can view a live image of the photos and videos that we compose while our specialized aircraft are airborne. This feature enables us to communicate with the client and make sure that we are capturing exactly the perspective that shows the subject at its very best. With traditional aircraft, you do not see the images until well after the aircraft has landed.
ImageAbove’s UAV Fleet.
ImageAbove uses state-of-the-art, electric-powered model helicopters to lift high-resolution optics into the air. These aircraft are small enough to fit several craft in the back of a vehicle but large enough to carry Canon’s highest-resolution digital cameras, HD video cameras and thermal imaging systems. Another advantage of electric- and battery-operated helicopters is that they are relatively noise-free, they are smoke-free and vibration-free, unlike traditional combustion aircraft that produce all three! All of these factors combined allow us to capture high-resolution images that would be impossible to obtain in a traditional manned aircraft.
